URICT- Uganda trains rural/village women, teenage mothers and youth Eastern Uganda, East Africa to improve on pest control, improved productivity, market, access to credits, access to markets, record keeping and harvest management as we sustainably work with women headed families on how to get the best out of farming using the most adequate and accommodative technologies. This project target rural women headed families, single mothers and youth who are key groups in Agriculture and Environment protection in Uganda.

Fruit and vegetable production is among the main agriculture activities in our village, however there are very many problems small households of horticulture have no assistance. As highlighted below.

  • Pest control and insecticide/ Fertilizer use
  • Technical knowledge and inadequate research
  • Environmental challenges, Soil erosion, Waste disposal and options for dispensing of used chemical containers
  • Marketing and Production Skills

Gender

75% of our targets are women, and we have developed a monitoring tool where we take note of their house hold income at the beginning of the project and later after the project we monitor how their house hold income have increased, this give us an indicator to know how the women have been impacted. At the same time, we take note of their food security and environment protection levels at the beginning of the project and at the end.

Monitoring and Evaluation

Our agriculture officer M&E Project and also work very closely with the local women leaders, local authorities and religious leaders.

URICT – Uganda has worked with local agriculture farmers for more than 5years; we have experienced staff and local volunteers who feel ownership of the project. We have sound understanding of the local situation and we have worked through the years from anything to something. We have attracted both local and international resource persons who have helped to make this community a better. Since the locals feel ownership of the project it gives me a strong sense of focus and sustainability. And am confident if URICT- Uganda is funded we shall achieve much more in terms of food security, nutrition, environmental protection and improved household incomes.
